LONDON – A London council has confiscated supplies of breast milk ice cream from a specialist parlour which launched the new flavour in the British capital last week on concerns the frozen treat may spread viruses.

Westminster Council said it had visited the Icecreamists restaurant in London’s Covent Garden and removed all ice cream containing breast milk for testing after being contacted by members of the public and the Food Standards Agency.

“Selling foodstuffs made from another person’s bodily fluids can lead to viruses being passed on and in this case, potentially hepatitis,” Brian Connell, Westminster Council’s cabinet member for business, said on Tuesday.

He added that the owner had agreed to cease making and serving the ice cream while it was being tested.

Matt O’Connor, founder of the restaurant where the “Baby Gaga” ice cream made from breast milk, Madagascan vanilla pods and lemon zest was launched on Friday, dismissed the concerns, saying they were “complete rubbish.”

He said the breast milk — provided by women who responded to an advert on an online mothers’ forum — had undergone the same “scrupulous” screening procedures as the milk, blood and sperm found in donation banks.

“If the ice cream is not safe, then these mothers pose a serious risk to their babies,” he told Reuters on Tuesday.

BOOBS!

On February 25, 2011, in Nom Noms, World News, WTF!, by teh disco.

It may not be to everyone’s tastes, and that’s a good thing, because there’s not much to go around.

A London, England, ice cream parlour has introduced a new dish they’re calling the Baby Gaga: ice cream made from the milk of people, served with a shot of liquid nitrogen and, if you so please, a cocktail.

The breast milk comes from willing donors who are paid for their trouble, the U.K. Daily Mail reports. The first woman donated about 30 ounces (just over 800 ml) and was paid just over 45 pounds (about $70).

“I saw the advert offering to pay women to donate breast milk on a forum and it made me laugh,” Victoria Hiley told the newspaper. “There were so many comments and people were having a debate on whether it could be genuine. So I thought I’d find out.”

The ice cream is served in a martini glass for 14 pounds per serving, or about $22 for us Canucks.

A British man has paid more than $16,000 for his wife and two daughters to get breast implants.

Mom Deborah Higley had her operations first about five years ago, and then the two daughters, Harriett and Rose, decided they wanted a new set too, the U.K. newspaper The Mirror reported Sunday.

“We’re a really close family, so having boob jobs together seemed the most natural thing in the world,” Harriett, 21, told the newspaper. “I remember when Mom had hers done, I was so jealous. I just wanted mine to look the same.”

The sisters had their operations the same day and got identical implants.

Their father paid for the surgeries as their birthday gift, when Rose turned 19 and Harriet turned 21.

The father is not named in the article, which notes he and Deborah are now divorced.
